Web Analytics Without Crumbs
By crumbs I of course mean cookies – a fundamental part of how the current crop of web analytics and tracking tools work.
Due to the stateless nature of HTTP, in order to track a user across one or more visits to your site a cookie has to be placed onto their machine so they can be re-indentified every time a page is requested.
So if a user has cookies disabled then there’s no way for the analytics software to track them – at least in any meaningful way. Or is there?
Good lord there are some sick web developers out there
I’m not prone to angry outbursts, but I’ve just seen something that’s really pissed me off.
